On 5th Nov 2007 two post mounted boxes were installed at Broomheath Lane. These boxes will support the breeding of the local Barn Owl population until the trees are at a height that precludes Barn Owls from hunting efficiently. When the Barn Owls have stopped using the boxes they can be converted or replaced with Tawny Owl boxes. The larger trees will have Bat boxes fitted too. At William's Wood in Rowton there have been 2 boxes since 2003 and they regularly have chicks, although generally only one box at a time is inhabited by breeding Barn Owls.

This is a tree that is in decline but efforts are being made to make it a regular feature of the Cheshire countryside. The following cloned genetic material is currently being rooted for the production of a stock hedge.
